The site is to the rear of an existing dwelling bordering green belt land. The proposed house is for a self build client on a former piggery site which embraces the ethos of sustainability and energy efficiency. The new house is a contemporary response to the existing traditional venacular orientated to maximise the spectacular views. The house will achieve the highest thermal and energy use credentials by implementation of highly insulated air tight construction with triple glazed windows for U values of 0.13w/m²k, use of low carbon locally sourced materials, and renewable measures such as mechanical ventilation and heat recovery, grey water harvesting, photo-voltaic panels, passive solar gain and wood burning stove.
